Manhattan Area Festivals & Celebrations

Festivals of different types are beloved in many parts of the United States, including in Manhattan, Kansas and in surrounding communities as well. Throughout the generations, festivals and celebrations have been bringing people of all ages together. In Manhattan itself, there are a number of large and small festivals and celebrations that occur at different times of the year. These events not only bring out the population of the Little Apple, but they draw visitors from far and wide. And, as has been mentioned, there are festivals and celebrations in other communities that also bring out the crowds for lively and enjoyable times.

Juneteenth Celebration The celebration of Juneteenth originally grew out of the day on which the Emancipation Proclamation was read and slavery was banned in the State of Texas.

This historic event actually occurred on June 19, 1865. In more recent times, Juneteenth has been widely celebrated in a number of communities and in different states, including in Manhattan, Kansas.   This celebration includes music, arts, crafts and plenty of food. It normally is held in Douglass Park in Manhattan, Kansas.   Country Stampede Music Festival Each and every summer, the Country Music Stampede is the country music festival in the State of Kansas. Thousands flock to this out of doors, three days long event that now attracts performers from around the world.

Little Apple Jazz Festival If country and western music is not your style, Manhattan, Kansas, also has a stellar jazz festival that is held in July of each year, normally at City Park. Local and regional musicians come together to present the kind of jazz that you would normally find in the taverns of Kansas City or the streets of New Orleans. Tuttle Creek Lake Festival The Tuttle Creek Lake Festival is held in June of each year. People of all ages are invited to come to Tuttle Creek Lake for the day long event.

Festivities include arts and craft exhibitions, live music of different genres and an amazing jet ski competition. The celebration is capped off with a fireworks show beyond compare after sunset.   As with many of the other Manhattan, Kansas are festivals and celebrations, the Tuttle Creek Lake Festival is drawing visitors from far and wide in addition many, many local residents who make the celebration at Tuttle Creek Lake a much enjoyed annual event.

Konza Music Festival   The Konza Music Festival is of recent origin. In fact, the first Konza Music Festival was held in the Aggieville section of Manhattan, Kansas. Indeed, the Konza Music Festival is an outgrowth of the popular AggieFest.   In its first year up and running, the Konza Music Festival featured over 100 local bands performing at different venues throughout Aggieville. Fourteen different bars and restaurants provided stage space to the various bands throughout the course of the lively festival. Organizers of the event expect it to include even more bands and more venues in future years. In short, Aggieville really comes alive with the Konza Music Festival.
